Jacquemart-André [Feb. 10th, 2008|11:23 pm]
European Academy of Costume

Bustles in Paris, 24/02 [Jan. 5th, 2008|03:15 pm]
European Academy of Costume

Seems like I probably won't be able to attend after all. My manager has a thing too on that same day. She will try and see if she can move it, but I don't think it very likely. I was wondering if everyone has already decided that the date is good and gotten their tickets or if there's a possibility to move the event up one week to the 2nd March? Let me know!

Edgar Poe's birth Bicentennary in 2009 [Jan. 4th, 2008|07:55 pm]
European Academy of Costume

I discovered* recently that Edgar Poe's birth Bicentennary is the 19 January 2009. As several of Poe's most famous "detective" cases take place in Paris, I thought it would be a fun idea to make a Poe event and an intresting departure from our Bustle in Paris routine.

We already have three participants, the usual suspects (de_ravenne, green_martha, and me, heileen. Which means that unless great misfortune, mishappening, or mis-whatever, the event is going to take place. This is not a mere project.

__ The costumes can be in a 1809-1849 time span : Edgar Poe's dates of birth and death. It would be fun to have a little bit of everything. For my part I will either have a 1848 dress, or 1839 one. EDIT : de_ravenne may go for a 1840s dress.

__ The place (NB : none of the streets mentionned in Poe's books exists, we then can't make a literary pilgrimage...) : I suggest the morbid. It's Edgar Poe we're going to celebrate !
-The Père Lachaise Cemetery would be perfect. But we will be freezing cold, and dresses will be hidden under capes.
-The Pantheon can be good : famous people tombs everywhere. Bad point : not very eye candy for pictures.
_The Catacombs would have been fantastic, but we will probably be refused the entry : they are considered quite dangerous, and with costumes we would considered doubly endangered !

__ The date : the best would be 18th january, a sunday. We will be in time for the actual date of birth of Edgar Poe (the 19th). But, there's every chance it will conflict with everyone schedule.
I suggest the beginning of 2009, because it would replace Bustle in Paris. Now, people may want to keep Bustle in Paris in 2009. I just thought it would make to much events in one year (we already have the Vaux-la-Vicomte's Journée grand Siècle every year in June.) But having the Poe's event at the end of the year could be a good occasion to have at least, well, an event at the end of the year !

That was quite a long post, I hope you won't fall asleep reading it. Comment and add your suggestions. Nothing I mentionned is carved in the marble (stupid french expression, even more stupid once literaly translated).

I wish this event to be an occasion to have new people coming (people not interested in the Bustle era, for example..).

PS : my engish skills are really low tonight, sorry..

* Thnaks to a Poe event that is going to take place in the US in a few days with many people from my f-list.

February Bustles in Paris [Dec. 25th, 2007|08:21 pm]
European Academy of Costume

green_martha asked some times ago, but I think few people saw the post. I didn't, sorry.

So, we need to fix a date in February for Bustles in Paris : I was thinking of the 24th. If I'm not wrong, it is a Sunday. It's in the end of February to make it easier to most of people : to me because I need time to finish my dress, to green_martha because she's in holidays, to de_ravenne because she can only take a Sunday off in the end of February.

So we need to to know if the date works for lisotchka, lady_darkstone and philcostumes (and any other person interested tyhat I know nothing of).

February Victorian Museum Visit ! [Dec. 9th, 2007|10:31 am]
European Academy of Costume

Maybe we could start thinking about when more precisely we'll go to the Museum Jacquemart-André ?
I should be all ready to go anytime from the 17th of February until ca. the 27th (I have two vacation weeks and will keep a few day with my parents at the end of it). How does it look on your side ?

I called the Musée Jacquemart-André and... they're okay ! Very nice person on the phon,e she told me they even once had cosplayers.(Yeah, I have trouble too figuring out what cosplayers would do there...) They're open 10 am to 18pm all year round, they have a restaurant/cafe (11am to 17:30 pm). The entrance fee is 9€50 (7€ reduced), 13€50 for a guided tour of their permanent collections.

What do you think ? Will bustles strike back ?

(I haven't phoned other museums yet, I can if necessary)

Alternatives [Nov. 11th, 2007|05:01 pm]
European Academy of Costume

I'll repost here the various suggestions we've gathered as to WHERE we could go wander in late victorian costume...

Musée Rodin
Musée des Arts Décoratifs
Musée Carnavalet
Petit Palais
Museum d'histoire naturelle
Musée Guimet
Musée Cernushi
Musée Nissim de Camondo (though it seems they wouldn't be very... welcoming according to philcostumes)
Les Invalides (I'm not that fond of that one either)
Musée du Luxembourg (there will be an exhibition on a fauvist artist starting Feb. 20th 2008)
Musée Jacquemart-André (I've checked, they're open all year round) (BTW, they currently have a Fragonard exposition which ends on Jan. 13th. 2008 *sigh*)
Musée de l'Orangerie
(Thanks to heileen and de_ravenne for the suggestions !)

Now, I really don't know which route to go. Would it be better to go there in person ? I'm not that good on the phone and it seems to be a more delicate matter than I first thought... I'm a bit at a loss on how to proceed...

Another option would be a walk in the Père Lachaise, probably followed by a coffee/chocolate/tea somewhere because we'd be a tad cold outside in February... (I'm working on the mantle, but still)

Bad BAAAAAAAd news [Oct. 19th, 2007|10:22 am]
European Academy of Costume

[mood |annoyedannoyed]

I've called Orsay. They won't let us in. You have to be dressed "normally" (sic) to get in. You don't have the right to "create a distraction" for the other visitors and "disturb" them (sic again). If the initiative does not come from the Museum, it's a no go.

What to do ?????

Oh, besides, lady_darkstone already got in once in her white and blue striped ress (the one on the far right) without a hitch. Not sure how they'd handle a bunch of people dressed that way, though.

Hey hey hey ! [Sep. 9th, 2007|06:05 pm]

[mood |bouncyactive]

Ok folks, I just came home from meeting the lovely lady_darkstone, and much time was spent drooling over fashion pictures from 1877 and 1879, so it made me think of that Orsay-in-costume plan... I have fabrics, I have a pattern, how's it looking on your side ? Who would like to join, and around when ?

ETA : if I look at my very unsteady schedule, the end of winter/spring would be a good time for me.
